I am a nature photographer, living in northern Germany, in Kiel, located at the Baltic Sea, together with my wife Barbara and my daughters Friederike and Josefine. I started photography relatively late, in the year 2000, after I had made my degree in Geography at the university in Kiel. Nature photography is something very special for me. It’s a great chance to combine technical skills, scientific knowledge and aesthetic components. Briefly worded: I love it! In my opinion it’s a process of permanent learning, that’s the challenge. To try something new, to improve youself. In the meantime I think I am on a good way. Several of my images have been awarded in international photo contests, like Wildlife Photographer of the Year, GDT’s European Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Asferico. In 2004 I became GDT’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year. My images are sold by several agencies in Europe and the US.
Nature Photography with Jari Peltomäki is something very special. There are several reasons that make it succesful as well as funny. At first, he is a very good birder. He knows exactly where to find the birds and how they will behave. And, moreover, he loves the birds, so he would always stop photography before an animal would be seriously disturbed. The second reason is that he is an excellent photographer. A very important fact, because there is a big difference between watching birds and taking pictures of them. He knows everything about light, background or perspective, briefly worded, which photographic options are given in a certain situation. And third: He’s the best pal one could imagine. Funny, helpful and sensitive. Did I mention that he is a great cook, too? He is! And to complete the story: He’s got a very friendly and professional crew (thank you, Leena!).
Jari’s motto is „Think positive!“ and, believe me, it works!
